Honigman Adds Three New Attorneys to IP Department

DETROIT (April 19, 2018) – Honigman announced this week that it added two new partners to its Intellectual Property department. John Chau joins the firm’s Patent practice group in Bloomfield Hills and Mary Hyde enters the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group in Ann Arbor. Additionally, Cristina Almendarez joins as an associate in the Intellectual Property Litigation practice group in the firm’s Chicago office.

John Chau is an experienced patent attorney who advises his clients on a full range of intellectual property matters, including patent prosecution, freedom to operate, intellectual property rights enforcement, licensing and research projects between private companies and government agencies.He counsels clients from a broad range of industries including automotive, medical device, and software.  He joins Honigman from Dinsmore & Shohl LLP.

Mary Hyde is an intellectual property attorney who represents clients in all types of trademark, marketing and advertising and copyright matters. She handles federal litigation actions for trademark infringement and dilution, trade dress infringement, false advertising, unfair competition, misappropriation of trade secrets, copyright and breach of contract matters and counsels clients on global and domestic brand development and protection through trademark clearance, prosecution, and management. She will start in the firm’s Chicago office and move to its Ann Arbor office over the summer. She joins the firm from Jones Day.

Christina Almendarez is an intellectual property attorney who joins Honigman from Kirkland & Ellis LLP.  She focuses her practice on patent infringement, trademark, and false advertising litigation. She represents clients from a wide range of industries including biotechnology, biologic drugs, consumer goods, and manufacturing where she analyzes infringement and validity positions in pre-filing investigations

 Many of Honigman’s Intellectual Property attorneys have undergraduate and advanced degrees in a wide range of science and technology fields, including chemistry and biology disciplines, mechanical and electrical engineering, and computer science.
